Where to Stay in Hanoi with a Large Group
By Ngo Thu Thuy (Jenny), founder of Anamoi Villa · Updated
Planning a trip to Hanoi with 8, 12 or even 20 people — a family reunion, a group of friends or a company team? Most hotels will split you across different floors, and you'll end up with nowhere to sit down together at the end of the day. This guide explains which area of Hanoi works best for big groups, why a private villa is usually the easier (and cheaper) choice, and which house fits your group size.
Hotel rooms or a private villa?
For groups of 8 or more, a whole-house rental solves the problems that hotels can't:
- One shared space. A living room, dining table and kitchen where everyone can gather — instead of meeting in a hotel lobby.
- One booking, one host. No juggling eight separate reservations, and one person to contact if anything is needed.
- The cost is shared. A villa is priced per night for the whole house. A villa from 9,500,000 VND per night for up to 16 guests works out to around 600,000 VND (roughly US$24) per person.
- Arrive together. Book directly for 3 nights or more and the whole group is picked up from Noi Bai Airport for free.
- Privacy. The whole house is reserved for your group only — no strangers in the corridor.
The trade-off: a villa doesn't have a 24-hour reception desk or room service. In return, you get a local host team on call and the freedom to cook, eat and relax on your own schedule.
West Lake or the Old Quarter?
These are the two areas most visitors choose between. For large groups, the difference matters more than for couples. (For a full side-by-side, see Old Quarter vs West Lake.)
West Lake (Tay Ho) — best for most groups
West Lake is leafy and quieter, with bigger houses — which means room for private pools, rooftop terraces, BBQ areas and parking for a minivan. Lakeside cafés, international restaurants and spas are within walking distance, and the Old Quarter is a 15–20 minute drive away. It's the natural choice for families with children, multi-generational trips, longer stays and company retreats. Compare all six West Lake villas or read our West Lake area guide.
Old Quarter — best for street-food explorers
The Old Quarter is Hanoi at its most lively: street food, markets and Hoan Kiem Lake right on your doorstep. Houses here are traditional narrow townhouses, so expect stairs and no pool — but if your group wants to walk everywhere and spend most of the day out, nothing beats the location. Read our Old Quarter area guide.
Which villa fits your group?
| Group size | Villa | Area | Highlights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 20 | West Lake Pool Villa | West Lake | 7 bedrooms, private pool, parking |
| Up to 16 | West Lake French Colonial | West Lake | 8 bedrooms, karaoke & movie room, rooftop hot tub |
| Up to 16 | West Lake Artist Villa | West Lake | 6 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, rooftop jacuzzi |
| Up to 16 | Old Quarter Artist House | Old Quarter | 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, 5 min walk to Hoan Kiem Lake |
| Up to 14 | West Lake Peaceful Villa | West Lake | 6 bedrooms, panoramic rooftop jacuzzi, 1 min to the lake |
| Up to 8 | West Lake Pearl House | West Lake | 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms |
West Lake Pool Villa — for the biggest groups (up to 20)
A 4-storey villa in the Dang Thai Mai area with 7 bedrooms, 10 beds and a private swimming pool on site. It's open on all four sides with green surroundings, has a pool table, private parking and cafés and spas within 300 m. The pool makes it the top pick for families with kids and for summer trips. From 10,500,000 VND per night. View West Lake Pool Villa.
West Lake French Colonial — for groups who want to stay in
The house with the most bedrooms: 8 rooms on a 1,000 m² property, 5 minutes' walk from West Lake and 10 minutes' drive to Hoan Kiem Lake. A private basement entertainment room with karaoke, a movie projector and board games keeps everyone together in the evenings. Every room has a desk and fast WiFi, which makes it popular with company teams. From 9,500,000 VND per night.
“The place is very spacious and was a perfect retreat for our team. It’s a private area with short taxi rides (or longer walks) to many restaurants in West Lake or old Quarter.”
West Lake Artist Villa — space and a bathroom for every room
A 4-storey villa with artistic interiors, 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms for up to 16 guests — so nobody waits in line in the morning. The rooftop jacuzzi is the group's favourite spot after a day out, and the lake is 2 minutes' walk away. From 8,500,000 VND per night. View West Lake Artist Villa.
Old Quarter Artist House — a big group in the heart of the city
One of the few ways to keep a group of up to 16 together in the Old Quarter: 5 private bedrooms and 6 bathrooms across floors 3–5 of a traditional Hanoi townhouse, reserved for one group only. Hoan Kiem Lake is a 5-minute walk away. Good to know: the building has no elevator and the entrance and stairs are shared with residents, so it may not suit guests with limited mobility. From 6,000,000 VND per night. View Old Quarter Artist House.
West Lake Peaceful Villa — quiet and green, right by the lake
A 3-storey villa in the Tu Hoa area, a 1-minute walk from West Lake, with 6 bedrooms for up to 14 guests and a panoramic rooftop terrace with a private jacuzzi. A calm choice for families and longer stays. From 7,000,000 VND per night. View West Lake Peaceful Villa.
Practical tips for group stays in Hanoi
- Book early for peak dates. Large houses are limited, and Christmas, New Year and Tet (Lunar New Year) fill up first.
- Airport transfer. Noi Bai Airport is a 30–50 minute drive depending on the villa. Booking directly at anamoivilla.com for 3 nights or more includes free airport pickup for your whole group — we arrange enough vehicles for everyone, even for 20 guests. For shorter stays, book 7-seat cars through the Grab app.
- Getting around. Grab is the easiest way to move a group around the city — order 7-seat cars and split them between you.
- Breakfast. Most villas offer the ANAMOI Morning Pantry, a self-serve breakfast prepared every day (extra fee), so the whole group can start the day together without going out.
- Evenings in. BBQ setup assistance is available on request — an easy way to celebrate a birthday or the last night of the trip.
- House rules. The villas are homes in residential neighbourhoods. Quiet hours are 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM, and they are not venues for loud parties.
- Times. Check-in is from 3:00 PM and check-out by 12:00 PM. When you book directly, early check-in or late check-out is free at every villa, subject to availability.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the best area in Hanoi for a large group?
- West Lake (Tay Ho) suits most large groups: houses are bigger, streets are quieter and there is space for pools, rooftops and parking. Choose the Old Quarter if your group mainly wants to walk to street food, markets and Hoan Kiem Lake.
- How many people can stay together in one villa in Hanoi?
- Up to 20 guests at West Lake Pool Villa. West Lake French Colonial, West Lake Artist Villa and Old Quarter Artist House each sleep up to 16.
- Is a villa cheaper than hotel rooms for a group?
- Often, yes. The price is for the whole house, so it's shared. A villa from 9,500,000 VND per night for 16 guests is around 600,000 VND per person per night — with a kitchen, living room and outdoor space included.
- How do we get from Noi Bai Airport to the villa?
- It's a 30–50 minute drive. Free airport pickup for the whole group is included for stays of 3 nights or more booked directly at anamoivilla.com; for shorter stays you can book 7-seat cars on Grab.
- Can we hold a party at the villa?
- The villas are private homes, not party venues, and quiet hours are 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Birthday dinners and BBQ evenings within those hours are welcome.
